The labour market is undergoing significant change. In light of this, Quebec Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity, Jean Boulet, presented his Plan d’action pour la main-d’œuvre 2018-2023 a few years ago which aims to support workers, job seekers and employers by implementing different measures.
Among these, we denote the desire to improve the quality of life in the workplace. This consideration has been highlighted by the recent economic crisis. Therefore, to support this initiative aimed at businesses, the government of Quebec created a guide (French only) to promote the implementation of the quality of life program in the workplace; a tool designed to improve employee retention and well-being at work.
Quality of life at work: a major concern
Due to the challenges presented by labour shortages and recruitment issues, employee well-being is now more than ever a factor in talent retention and loyalty, an issue taken more and more seriously by business managers.
Mental health issues were already very present in the workplace, but were exacerbated by the pandemic as workers faced increased pressure and stress caused by a shortage of qualified personnel. Consequently, many employees did not return to their jobs, forcing those who remained to work harder to compensate for the lack of staff.
According to a study conducted by the University of Laval, 52% of workers feel that mental health is not prioritized or treated adequately in their workplace. Furthermore, 55% of workers stated that they are experiencing at least one mental health-related issue.
Nethris strongly encourages you to use the tools put in place by the Quebec government, as we believe that as an employer you have the opportunity, and even the responsibility, to change things and make a difference. You can create a pleasant work environment that will both answer your entrepreneurial needs and those of your employees.
